The phenomenon of Education in Indonesia :
Why Expensive?!
Number of complaints of parents, especially from lower middle class who are still among the majority in Indonesia regarding the amount of tuition fees which they must spend to educate their children, creating the atmosphere of concern among academic and non academic who directly or indirectly involved in in education. Even had some TV and print media never show / show some daring students who committed suicide just because their parents inability to pay liabilities of the administration / school tuition. See reality as it does the government and education providers will continue to close their eyes and their conscience?!!
Opening Act of 1945 paragraph 4 states that the aim of the intellectual life of the nation state. In realizing these efforts, each Warg anegara have the right to receive instruction (Article 31 paragraph 1 of the 1945 Constitution) and in Law Number 20 Year 2003 on National Education System Chapter IV Article 5 paragraph (1) Every citizen has the same right to obtain education quality, subsection (2) Citizens who have physical, emotional, mental, intellectual, and / or social right to receive special education, (3) Citizens in remote or underdeveloped and remote indigenous communities are entitled to special education services , paragraph (4) Citizens who have the potential of intelligence and special talents are entitled to special education, and paragraph (5) Every citizen has the right to get an opportunity to increase lifelong education. This means that all Indonesian citizens without exception have the right to education.
Obligations and responsibilities of government in education sector, in addition to providing school facilities and infrastructure, enabling factors facilitate teaching and learning activities, and engage the community's role in it with good social strata do not distinguish the parent-rich or poor, official or non official, but rather the fact there is a tendency that only children whose parents are rich or officials who could get an education, especially at prestigious schools and the favorite of course set a high standard of tuition fees as well. Reminiscent of the earlier history of the colonial period in which only the children of the nobility, the rich people can afford at the time, and the colonizer's own children could attend school. Is not our country already independent?!! How did this happen? This is certainly enough cause unrest and polemic, of course, will always cause the pros and cons in this issue.
By not looking right or wrong in addressing the current state of education is precisely our awareness about the importance of education for every citizen of the Republic of Indonesia, where with a good level of education would also have an impact on a better level of welfare as well. But no doubt there are many highly educated people who are not able to be "successful" in a glass eye or point of view of their own. Then the direction of how the actual education that fits applied in Indonesia? Is the desire to print people are "smart" (smart in the real sense) or just print the people who "minteri" (good at fooling others.
Growing conditions and situations today in which every education providers are competing to score their students into the "too" even overseas education providers also target the education market in Indonesia by offering educational programs that are not less interesting so it does not matter how large costs to the desire is without seeing the situation at the macro economic conditions and the ability of parents in financing their children's school. Given the ability and reasoning power of each child's different of course this is very unfortunate if the organizers of education and the parents just to chase prestige alone or with other words to highlight the prestige that they finally want to say to feel better or "too" was.
In the philosophy of Java is the word "'Jer Basuki Mawa Bea" which roughly means that something will work itself requires a cost in implementation. But whether the high cost of education today will be able to create students who have higher education? Of course the answer is: not necessarily, because there are many other factors must be considered.
And as we know almost 20% Indonesian Government budget has been allocated to the education sector, even the government has launched a 6-year Compulsory Education Program, since 1984 and the implementation of 9-year Compulsory Education Program which has been noticeable since 1994, the government issued the Program BOS and BOS books (BOS = School Operating Costs) for elementary school students and the School of Advanced First, the granting of scholarships for students from among the parents who are less able, while salaries and benefits to educators today is relatively adequate, then why do schools have to be expensive ?!! In some countries close to our neighbors who actually have education problems of the Citizens liberate his country alias free schools because they realize the importance of human resource asset as the future of their nation and a high sense of responsibility towards his country Citizens.
